Silicone Breast Implants Add Choices For Women

Posted in Silicone Breast Implants on January 20th, 2010 by Admin – Be the first to comment

With more than ten years of controversy and scientific study, the US Food and Drug Administration has approved silicone gel breast implants for general usage. They are now available to all women ages 22 and higher for both reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery.

The availability of silicone implants will greatly expand the options for women seeking cosmetic breast augmentation. In many situations, they have real advantages over saline breast implants. They tend to look and feel more natural than saline implants. They are less prone to rippling or crinkling which can sometimes be felt and occasionally can become visible under the skin. They are lighter than silicone implants. But, they are plotting by some to have a higher rate of capsular contracture, which is scarring around the implant and can make the breasts hard.

In countries where both silicone and saline implants have been available the vast majority of patients and surgeons select silicone implants. This is testimony to their advantages. In the US, we are likely to see a large number of patients select silicone breast implants.

But there will still be a place for saline implants. Some people might simply prefer not to have silicone placed in their body. Silicone implants are more expensive than saline implants. In some suitcases, the implant is used as a sort of platform to elevate the normal breast tissue rather than to give the breast the entirety of its affect. In this situation, saline implants gathering just in this area as effectively as silicone implants.

Silicone implants have not been shown to cause autoimmune diseases such as arthritis and lupus, as had been feared. But patients should realize that any breast augmentation procedure is essentially temporary. Body affect and anatomy can change, there might be tribulations with healing or the body’s reaction to the implant. At some point, it is likely that bonus procedures may be necessary. At Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery, we are already doing quite a few breast augmentations with silicone implants. I expect we will see many more people interested in the procedure in the next few months.

Custom Breast Augmentation: Type of Implant

You have the option between silicone and saline breast implants. Saline implants have a silicone shell and are filled with a solution that matches your body chemistry. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel.

In addition to breast implant material, there are differences in affect. For breast augmentation surgery, implants can be round, oval or anatomical. There is conflicting evidence regarding anatomical implants and whether they really provide the most natural-looking results. Some implants are also inflatable, which allows for more control over symmetry.

The surface of your implants can be textured or smooth. Some surgeons hold firm that textured implants reduce the risk of capsular contracture. Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue forms around the implant, hardening the breasts. Other breast augmentation doctors prefer smooth implants.

Make a Breast Augmentation Procedure to Meet Your Needs: Type of Incision

The location of the incision may rest on what your surgeon is comfortable with doing. If you have a preference, locate a cosmetic surgeon accordingly. Breast augmentation surgery can be performed under four different types of incisions, with no one method necessarily safer than the others.

The most common incisions for a breast augmentation procedure are in the crease of the breast or underneath the areola. Incisions can also be located in the armpit or through the navel. Breast augmentation surgery through the navel leaves effectively no scar. But, choosing an implant that is filled pre-operatively will lessen your options for the type of incision.

Custom Breast Augmentation Procedure: Sub Glandular Implant Placement

During breast augmentation surgery, the implants can be placed differently. Sub glandular placement is right behind the glands and in front of the pectoral muscle. Sub glandular placement may not be suitable for patients lacking enough breast tissue. But, women with larger breasts may find it adds a small lift.

Custom Breast Augmentation: Partial Sub Muscular Placement

Partial sub muscular placement is between the major and minor pectoral muscles. This can enhance cleavage and make a natural appearance. But, partial sub muscular breast augmentation is more complicated. Recovery may cause substantial discomfort.

Custom Breast Augmentation: Full Sub Muscular Placement

Full sub muscular is placement behind the muscle. Results for full sub muscular breast augmentation require the longest adjustment cycle. It can take several months before noticing the results.

What is the best area for breast augmentation incisions?

Posted in Breast Augmentation on November 7th, 2009 by Admin – 1 Comment

I am going in for breast augmentation in a few months, and I was wondering if anyone who has had implants already could give me some advice.

I am leaning towards a trans axillary incision (in the armpit) because I certainly do not want the subareolar incision (under the nipple).

But, they told me that the armpit incision may cause the implants to be further away from each other.

The other site I was deciding on was infra-mammary (under the breast in that crease).

The only problem is that my breasts are so small that I have no crease right now.

If anyone has had the trans-axillary incision before, please let me know how the results were.

I’m excited but I don’t want to be making the incorrect choice.

Okay… I did not question if it was safe or not nor did I want information in this area medical tourism or plastic surgery in India. :P

I know it sounds stupid, especially since I’m only 14, but nearly ever since I developed, my breasts have acted really pun.

No weird lumps, but when I looked up the signs of breast cancer, I notice that many of them do apply to me.

I wont go into detail, but should I talk to my doctor, or do you reckon it’s just part of puberty?
